Royal College of ·¬ÇÑÊÓƵ recognises landmark support for ‘More ·¬ÇÑÊÓƵ’ Campaign

The Royal College of ·¬ÇÑÊÓƵ recently unveiled its new donor recognition display in the College’s new café. The projection features the names of around 700 supporters who have donated £1,000 and above to the More ·¬ÇÑÊÓƵ: Reimagining the Royal College of ·¬ÇÑÊÓƵ Campaign over the last decade. The campaign is now in its final stages with less than £1 million remaining until the £25 million building development target is achieved.

The campaign was born out of a desire to strengthen the College’s facilities, support the most talented young musicians, widen access to music education and promote innovation. Thanks to the support of More ·¬ÇÑÊÓƵ Founding Patrons, Leadership and Principal Supporters, and hundreds of donors, these aims have been realised. The ·¬ÇÑÊÓƵ’s campus has undergone a transformational redevelopment, providing facilities that enhance opportunities for students and visitors alike. The More ·¬ÇÑÊÓƵ Campaign has allowed the footprint of the iconic South Kensington site almost to double in recent years. Additions to the campus include the creation of two new performance spaces, a brand-new, critically acclaimed Royal College of ·¬ÇÑÊÓƵ Museum, practice rooms for students and a new café and the 1851 Courtyard for students, staff and visitors to enjoy. Each of these additions contributes to an inspirational environment in which students can create, research, and perform for generations to come.

Furthermore, the More ·¬ÇÑÊÓƵ Campaign has allowed for the extension of the ·¬ÇÑÊÓƵ’s scholarships programme. Currently more than 50% of full-time students receive some financial support through the Scholarships Fund, which enables talented young musicians to access the world-class education the College offers, regardless of their means. One scholarship supporter, Robert Anderson, says: ‘My scholar graduated last year and even I can hear progress and see a growth of confidence that gives me great pleasure. […] I don’t know why I have not been supporting ·¬ÇÑÊÓƵ scholarships for years.’ The More ·¬ÇÑÊÓƵ Campaign has also improved research and digital capabilities; provided innovative academic initiatives; and offers more opportunities to widen access to classical music through a flourishing community engagement programme.

Chairman of the More ·¬ÇÑÊÓƵ Campaign, Geoffrey Richards Hon·¬ÇÑÊÓƵ, says: ‘Engaged philanthropy at the ·¬ÇÑÊÓƵ is essential. The generous support of our donors provides students with the facilities, scholarships, instruments and innovative teaching for success as world-class musicians. But excellence requires continual investment. I add my personal gratitude to everyone who has given generously to More ·¬ÇÑÊÓƵ and thank in advance those who will support us on this final stage of our journey.'
